Bluff Spring Fen
Bluff Spring Fen a nature preserve that consists of wetlands, woodlands and savannas. The area was once a quarry that halted operations in the 1970's after realizing that there was a rare swamp forest community on its property.
Today the Fen is composed of nearly 1,100 acres and is home to many animals including deer, foxes, rabbits and eagles as well as over 200 species of birds.
In April through September you can see many beautiful flowers such as trilliums, trout lilies and wild geraniums. During this time hiking trails are open from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., daily.
Bluff Spring Fen is open to the public. The trails are wheelchair accessible which also includes two boardwalks that run through the swamp forest.
The rest of the year, visitors must stay on roads and prohibit any type of pets.
Admission fee may be required. Hours are sunrise until sunset daily. Directions are available with an interactive map to help you get there easily. Pets are allowed but must be leashed at all times. No smoking or alcohol permitted inside the preserve's boundaries, please use the trash bins provided when finished visiting with your dogs/friends/family. No bikes allowed inside the preserve.
The preserve is best enjoyed when it is not too crowded, so try to go during unusual times of day to make it a less popular and more enjoyable trip.
